Some of the potential benefits that people may enjoy if they continue to work part-time while in retirement have been noted by one expert.

According to Emma Soames, Saga Magazine's Editor at Large, older workers may be able to take advantage of flexible working arrangements.

She said: "People are happier and healthier if they don't retire completely, immediately.

"People get more out of their jobs than they realise."

Ms Soames went on to say that those who are not looking to go into retirement fully could work in part-time roles or undertake more work from their home.

She also highlighted the social importance that staying in employment may have for some of the country's older workers.

Meanwhile, forthcoming amendments to the earliest age at which people can claim a pension are unlikely to have an impact on too many of the country's workers, the Hargreaves Lansdown Pensions Analyst Nigel Callaghan recently noted.
