Escaping water may force pension holders to claim insurance

Home insurance claims may need to be made by pension holders and other UK property owners, unless they deal with the threat of escaping water, a firm suggests.

Fortis has noted the insurance implications that may arise due to the effects of water in areas like lofts.

The firm's Head of Operations for Household and Travel Claims Gary Lobb believes that simple measures contained within a new water guide from Fortis could prove useful.

"The snow may have thawed in some parts of the country which brings fresh problems and elsewhere snow is predicted again so 'act now' is the advice."

Homeowners who are in retirement may also be keen to note that the benefits of switching insurance policies to a cheaper provider have recently been highlighted by Equifax's External Affairs Director Neil Munroe.

However, he believes that consumers should check that cheaper insurance deals still offer them all the cover that they need.
