Pension holders should be provided with a fair system of care, according to one expert.

Andrew Harrop of the age charities Help the Aged and Age Concern believes the country's political parties should ensure that they focus on care as the prospect of a general election looms larger.

The organisations' Director of Policy and Public Affairs commented: "Older people and their families deserve a care system which enshrines dignity and fairness - it's time for our politicians to deliver this for them."

His comments follow research published by Age Concern and Help the Aged, which has suggested that a number of frail pension holders currently receive help from their families in order to support them with their day-to-day routines.

Meanwhile, the age charities have also recently named the people who are to become their Internet Champions for this year, promoting the use of the web to those in retirement.
