A sum of £395 million has now been provided to motor insurance customers who were badly affected by the extreme winter weather seen in December and the first month of 2010, new figures have suggested.
According to the Association of British Insurers (ABI), around 268,400 claims were made by the country's drivers, with a number of people hit by ice and snow.
Director of General Insurance and Health at the organisation Nick Starling has highlighted some of the other problems that consumers had to deal with at the turn of the year.
He commented: "From dealing with snow damaged roofs [and] burst pipes, to repairing or replacing vehicles damaged by treacherous driving conditions, insurers helped their customers get through the snow and the freezing temperatures."
Last month, the ABI also aimed to raise awareness of the forthcoming change to the minimum pension age, which is due to go up in April.
