The country's pension holders and other vulnerable members of society need to be given further support when it comes to making their homes more energy efficient.

That is according to a new coalition, incorporating bodies such as Help the Aged, Age Concern and Consumer Focus, which believes that energy efficiency can play an important role in addressing the country's fuel poverty problems.

Ministers need to come up with a new strategy in order to deal with this form of poverty, the coalition has suggested.

"The main political parties have all exchanged rhetoric on the importance of ending fuel poverty but what we need now is concerted action," stated the Consumer Focus Energy Expert, Jonathan Stearn.

He went on to say that people have a right to enjoy houses which are well-heated.

Meanwhile, Age Concern and Help the Aged recently staged a political summit which aimed to look at how the country's care system could be improved in the future.
