Govt calling for comments on pension tax proposals

In order to increase transparency, the coalition government has confirmed that a number of documents relating to tax reform are to be made available to people, with pensions tax relief among the areas up for discussion.

A total of nine documents are to be published by ministers, with PAYE reform and proposals concerning disclosure of inheritance tax avoidance being other topics that are due to be covered.

It is thought that the likes of tax professionals and UK companies might find it interesting to view the documents and express any relevant opinions.

David Gauke, Exchequer Secretary, has noted the importance of scrutiny within the tax reform process.

He stated: "We are committed to a more considered and open approach to tax policymaking.

"That is why consultation and scrutiny of our tax policies will be the cornerstone of our tax policymaking process."

The coalition's decision to publish the tax-related documents has been positively received by the Chartered Institute of Taxation.
