Cases of dementia are set to double over the next 30 years, with 570,000 people in England already suffering from the disease, the NHS has warned.
The condition is most prevalent in people approaching retirement, with those over the age of 65 most vulnerable to Alzheimer’s.
The older one becomes, the increased risk they face of developing the disease, which is slightly more common in women than men.
However, there are a number of signs to look out for that can help identify dementia, including subtle changes in behaviour.
Lead Nurse for Admiral Nursing Direct, Ian Weatherhead, said: “Maybe a person isn’t socialising as much, maybe they are becoming more withdrawn, maybe they are not responding to telephone calls.
“All these clues can help us build up a better picture to help inform us that something isn’t right and requires an investigation.”
The expert suggested neglecting hygiene was another sign of dementia, however, it is best to seek the advice of a doctor as there are times these symptoms reflect depression.
