Welcome to the NHS Pension Scheme information pages. As a member of the NHS Pension Scheme, you have various options available to you to increase your pension benefits. On this site you will be able to access information on 4 tax-efficient ways to a healthier future*.
If you have already joined the TUC Stakeholder Pension Scheme click on the right to access your plan.
Prudential AVC
If you are employed in the NHS and a member of the NHS Pension Scheme you may want to consider the Prudential AVC to provide extra income in retirement and a tax-free lump sum when you retire. For more information click on the NHS AVC links on the right hand side.
TUC Stakeholder Pension Scheme
You also have the option of joining the TUC Stakeholder Pension Scheme to increase your income in retirement. For more information click on the TUC AVC links on the right hand side.
Other Registered Pension Schemes
You are also able to join any other registered pension scheme for which you meet the eligibility conditions, including Free Standing Additional Voluntary Contribution (FSAVC) schemes, Stakeholder pension schemes and Self-Invested Personal Pensions (SIPPs). These are all independent of your main occupational pension scheme and may be more expensive than an AVC in terms of charges, but under certain circumstances may suit certain people. For more information please refer to the NHS scheme's 'Increasing your benefits' booklet or speak to a Financial Adviser.
Additional Membership
Most NHS scheme members can pay an extra contribution to buy additional years of scheme membership to increase their main scheme benefits in retirement. The extra years bought give a predictable, guaranteed increase to all NHS Scheme benefits. For more information please refer to the Pensions Officer at your Employing Authority or visit the NHS Pension Agency's website at www.nhspa.gov.uk
Not a member of the NHS Pension Scheme?
If you are not eligible to join the NHS Pension Scheme you may still have the option to join the TUC Stakeholder Pension Scheme.
